![]() The Fold can be one of the trickiest islands, because there's a lot going on. ![]() Those are the ones that come to mind immediately, I'll update with more later if I think of them.Īlright, some additional tips I thought of: Everybody's deck is chock full of powers that you can't wait to take advantage of. Even if your character isn't labeled as synergy, that doesn't mean you can't go that route, or that your powers aren't good. ![]() You'll have plenty of time to learn to be optimal later, right now get feet wet with some of the most jaw-dropping things the game has to offer. Unlock your character powers! Synergy isn't necessarily the optimal strategy, but your personal character powers are crazy cool and fun. Long term, try both and see what feels right for your group (I'm personally a 5 round guy, but I really enjoy long, epic games, so the extra playtime doesn't bother me). The game can feel brutally short sometimes, especially when you're inefficient because you're still learning. I find that the couple of extra turns and between round (night) phase gives you just a bit more time to get your bearings and make some cool plays. Your first game will be slow with the teach and rule-checking and such anyway. 1 die saving you multiple shells is a decent trade.įor your first play, I recommend the 5 round game. This is particularly useful during the last few rounds, when rolling multiple danger is more likely. If you brought an extra die in hopes of hitting the optional push it symbol, it can serve as a backup to clutch out a challenge that isn't going your way. When shells are tight, sometimes dice are an easier toss. Players will often gobble up all the shell spaces (that don't require you to go fight a monster, which is expensive) early, as they make you feel safe for completing your challenges. While it stings a bit, if you need to reroll during a challenge or battle, you can return a single die to the supply rather than pay all of the danger hits. In line with this above, remember that you can lose a die to pay for ALL danger. You still advance the traits you matched, and you'll receive a consolation challenge card from the top of the deck! Make sure you're saving resources for the important moments, such as a big 4 symbol challenge, a bunch of monster hits, etc. While this is true to some extent, resources aren't free! Sometimes the right play is to pass on a bad start, rather than sabotaging your next few turns recollecting all the resources you used to push through. I find this helpful for giving players direction in what ends up being a bit of a points salad.ĭon't be afraid to give up on a challenge! One of the most common complaints is that the challenges lack tension because you can just throw more resources to complete them (the game let's you use and recycle resources for dice mitigation). Many of the personal goals are completing a specific type of challenge as well (either with a certain trait or at a certain arena). Points from raising your traits? Mostly awarded as a result of matching symbols during challenges and fights. You can baby a couple of extra bumps via the rondel at Lamara or a market card, but it's mostly as I stated. Champion's board track? Hitting armor, finishing blow on a monster, challenge in front of a judge, challenge sets. The game has a lot of different items that add to the point total, but most of them are primarily indirectly earned by challenges/monsters. I always try to advise new people that challenges and fighting monsters are how you win.I've played it about 10 times and taught it probably a couple dozen, here's some things to focus on: r/tabletopgamedesign - Designer's subreddit.r/boardgameexchange - selling/buying/trading games.Game of the Week Calendar Related Sites & Subreddits ![]() The simplest use is to bold game names in your comment and add " /u/r2d8 getinfo" at the end of the post, but this post/sub has other features identified.
